Notes:
James Pae Banks (1859-1925)2 was listed in the 1882 Petersburg city directory as a drug clerk at Joseph Carr's drugstore. He's listed in the 1886-1891 city directories as a drug clerk at E.R. Beckwith's drugstore. Starting in 1893, he's listed as owning his own drugstore. It was located at 3 North Sycamore Street, which had previously been the site of George C. Starke's drugstore.1

In the 1924 city directory, James's wife Jessie Virginia Field Banks (1859-1938)3 was listed as the vice-president of the drugstore company in the city directory. After 1925 when James passed away, she was listed as the president until 1933, when R. Henry Southworth became the president, and the store was renamed "Banks Drug Store".1
