Notes:
In 1860, N. F. Rives took on
Joseph Carr (1836-1902)5
and Walter B. Jordan as partners to his drug business, renaming
the business "N.F. Rives & Co". 6
In 1861, Carr enlisted as a Private and fought in the civil war, where he
was wounded in Malvern Hill. 7
About 1865, he and Jordan started their own drugstore called "Jordan & Carr".2
The partnership lasted until 1871, and by 1872 Carr had started his own drugstore.1
Carr seems to have left the drugstore business for a few years, as he is listed
as a real estate agent in the 1888 Petersburg city directory. But in the
1891 directory, he was again listed as a drugstore owner, this time at a
new address.1
In 1893, Carr had joined
John W. Burrow's
drugstore in Norfolk. 8
Carr passed away in 1901.5
