According to the March 1912 news in the book "The Practical druggist":²
Edgar D. Taylor started as a wholesale druggist with Dove & Company in 1862. Dove & Company's building was one of the buildings destroyed by fire on April 3rd 1864, so Taylor accepted a position with R.W. Powers wholesale and retail drug company. In 1872, Taylor was admitted to a partnership when the comany name changed to "R.W. Powers & Co". In 1890, the business was incorperated under the name Powers-Taylor.

And according to the header on a 1911 receipt listed below, POWERS-TAILOR DRUG CO was established 1860 as the successors to PURCELL, LADD & CO.

	This is a clear, 3-sided, 4.8" mouth-blown bottle that with embossing and a label. It says: embossed on one side: DOVE'S TRUE TURF OIL label (top squres): TRUE TURF OIL, FOR Sores of every kind which Mar the Form of MAN OR BEAST label (between top squres): EUREKA OF MEDICINES For every Creature that moves on the turf label (in rectangle): TRUE TURF OIL One teasponful ... S.E. DOVE SOLE PROPRIETOR RICHMOND, VA. label (below rectangle): Manufactured and sold by Powers-Taylor Drug Co., Lessees, Richmond, VA. S.E. Dove was another druggist in Richmond.
