Virginia Drugstore Directories


These are some of the resources I used to search lists of drugstores or pharmacists in the state of Virginia for the specified years.
Note that major cities like Richmond, Norfolk, Alexandria, etc. had their own city directories. I generally used the list of directories below to find the years of operation for drugstores in the smaller cities and towns.

Publication Descriptions:
The Virginia Pharmacist
    This monthly publication sometimes includes a full list of all the pharmacies in Virginia - seems to be in the July edition each year. Other editions have less information and only list the registered pharmacists. Published by the Virginia Pharmaceutical Association and the Board of Pharmacy of Virginia. Some are available online, and I have some hard-copies of a few of them.

The Era Druggists
    This was published yearly by the D.O. Haynes Co Publishers. Includes lists of drugstores from all over the USA, Canada, Cuba, Puerto Rico, and Manilla.
