Notes: Samuel Whidbee Weaver (1860-1929)2 ran a drugstore in Portsmouth, VA.
The 1880 Census says that his father was
Joseph F. Weaver
who also had a drugstore in Portsmouth.
The 1906 Portsmouth city directory listed his drug store at a new
location, 518 South Street, which was the address that his father's
drug store used to occupy.
He didn't last long there, because in the 1907 directory there was
no drugstore listed at that address, and the Samuel was listed in
the residential section as a clerk, working for "J & E Mahoney",
which was a Portsmouth liquor dealer. He was not listed as a
drugstore owner in any of the subsequent years.1
He passed away in 1929, as a result of getting hit by a car.3
His son,
Samuel Whidbee Weaver Jr. (1893-1955)4
was listed in city directories as the owner of a "Druggists Sundries"
company at 1900 S Elm Avenue in 1933, but that was the only year I
saw him listed, so that apparently was a short-lived venture.1
