Notes: Gottlob A. Krieger (1823-1900)3 was born in Germany, and
went by the name "George"4.
He started in the drug business on or before 1870. His drugstore shows
up in Portsmouth city directories over the years as "Gottlob A. Krieger",
"George A. Kreiger", and just "G. A. Krieger". 1
He may have started his career as a grocer. There are ads for
a grocery business named "Krieger & Barker" from 1867 in Norfolk,
although they don't give a first name for "Krieger". 5
Also, the residential section of the Portsmouth city directories from
1882-1885 list him as having both a grocery store and a drug store,
so he apparently gave the grocery business another try during that
time.
After his death in 1900, his drug store was taken over by
Dews & Maupin6.
