S.T. Hanger Drug Co.

Company Names, addresses, dates:
S.T. Hanger Drug Co., 118 High Street, Portsmouth VA (1902-1930) 1,2

Notes:
Stuart T. Hanger (1872-1941) 3 opened his drug store on May 9th, 1902 at 118 High Street. This was announced with an interesting want-ad in a newspaper, that said: "Wanted - One hundred thousand people to know that our store will open day and night after May the 9th". 1

In May of 1906, Hanger was fined for violating the Sunday Labor Law. Apparently he chartered a social club, and sold soda and cigars to the club members on Sunday. His fine was a whopping $2. 4

He retired and closed his drugstore sometime between 1930 and 1936 (I don't have access to any Portsmouth directories between those 2 years).2
