was a clerk for the
William H. Frey
drugstore as early as 1913.
In the 1920s and 1930s, he was a manager of that store,
and by 1935 he had taken over the business and incoroporated using
his own name.1
The label on the bottle below gives the address as the corner of
Washington & Dunlop Streets, which is modern day 901 W Washington
Street. FWIW, before a renumbering of addresses in 1914, this was
501 W Washington Street. A photo of the building at that address
is shown below.
Garland's drugstore was listed in city directories up until his
death in 1954. In subsequent years, the West End Pharmacy
was at 901 W Washington Street.1

This is the building at 901 W Washington Street in 2019 (from Google). I checked google again in 2026, and that building had been torn down. |
