Notes:
John Newton Williams Jr (1882-1978)2
was the son of
John Newton Williams Sr (1842-1914)3.
John Sr was the president of the
Williams, Martin & Gray
drug company. 1
John Jr started his own drugstore about 1910 with
James Hunter Tynes (1880-1940)4
at 364 Main Street, which was formerly the site of the
"Gorsuch J Clinton" drug store.1
John Jr. changed partners a few times. I couldn't find any announcements
in the newspaper to explain why this was so.
About 1914, he teamed up with
Cornelius. Philip Donnel Jr. (1861-1947)5
to form the Williams-Donnel drug company.1
About 1917, he teamed up with
William Henry Crawford Ellis (1887-19)6
to form the Williams-Ellis drug company.1
In 1921, there was a meeting to discuss a merger between the
Williams-Ellis drug company and the
Williams, Martin & Gray
drug company.7
I couldn't find any articles giving the result of that meeting, but
the "Williams-Ellis" drug store was no longer listed in the city
directories, and John Williams Jr. was listed in city directories
as the secretary-treasurer of "Williams, Martin & Gray". 1
