John Newton Williams Jr (1882-1978)² was the son of John Newton Williams Sr (1842-1914)³.
John Sr was the president of the Williams, Martin & Gray drug company. ¹

John Jr started his own drugstore about 1910 with James Hunter Tynes (1880-1940)⁴ at 364 Main Street, which was formerly the site of the "Gorsuch J Clinton" drug store.¹

John Jr. changed partners a few times. I couldn't find any announcements in the newspaper to explain why this was so. About 1914, he teamed up with Cornelius. Philip Donnel Jr. (1861-1947)⁵ to form the Williams-Donnel drug company.¹
About 1917, he teamed up with William Henry Crawford Ellis (1887-19)⁶ to form the Williams-Ellis drug company.¹

In 1921, there was a meeting to discuss a merger between the Williams-Ellis drug company and the Williams, Martin & Gray drug company.⁷
I couldn't find any articles giving the result of that meeting, but the "Williams-Ellis" drug store was no longer listed in the city directories, and John Williams Jr. was listed in city directories as the secretary-treasurer of "Williams, Martin & Gray". ¹
