C&O Canal Buttons

Notes:
This page features buttons and pins (and one Medal) that are related to the C&O Canal.

1911_gorman c1911 Button
This button isn't actually a C&O Canal button, but I include it because Arthur Pue Gorman was the president of the C&O Canal company. This button was from when he ran for Governor, about 1911.
1934 1934 Button
This button is for the 1934 "boatmen's reunion". The canal closed down in 1924, so 1934 would have been the 10 year anniversary of the canal closing. Apparently the boatmen got together for a reunion that year.
ADDENDUM: I beleive this pin was actually for the Susquhanna Canal in Pennsylvania, not the C&O Canal.
1971 1971 Button
This button is for the 17th annual C&O Canal Association's reunion/celebration hike. This hike was from Spring Gap to Cumberland. The C&O Canal Association still has a hike on the canal every year, to commemorate the famous hike of Supreme Court Justice William O. Douglass.

This elaborate button seems to commemorate the Lions Club in cumberland MD from 1931-1981. It features 4 separate buttons linked together by chains.
