The census says he was born 1853 in Ohio, and owned a Saloon in 1900 and a restaurant in 1910.
He's listed in DC directories under "Grocers" from 1892-1894.
He's listed in DC directories under "Saloons & Restaurants" from 1895-1912, at the same address (2100 E NW).
In 1913, 2100 E NW is listed under the name "Loftus Bros", so I guess Lawler sold his saloon to them.
