James E. Connelly

Company Names, addresses, dates1:
James E. Connelly, 926 1st Street NW, Washington DC (1890-1902)

Notes:
James E. Connelly (c.1863-1942)2,3 was a Grocer1.
He came to Washington DC circa 1888 and was an employee of the Government Printing Office. By 1890 he had started a grocery store business. 1
City directories list his grocery store at 926 1st Street NW. From looking at a modern map, that appears to have been on or near the "corner of 1st and K Streets NW" (the address embossed on the bottle below), so those addresses probably refer to the same location.
From looking at old newspapers, I see that he was denied a liquor license in 1891, but granted a license in 1896 - I couldn't find any approvals/denials in between.4.
So by 1896 he was selling liquor at his grocery store. The bottle below indicates it was likely he bottled and sold beer at his store, as it appears to be a beer bottle. I couldn't find anything to indicate which brewery produced the beer he bottled.
After 1902, Connelly left the grocery business and was involved in various other occupations1.
