An ad in the February 2 1881 Washington Post listed H.L. Dauterich as their agent.
It also listed 3 other DC bottlers who bottled Bergner and Engel's beer:
Chr. Dickson, John Nass and William Zanner.

This bottle is actually embossed with Anheuser-Busch, but has a partial
label from Bergner & Engle. I don't know if the 2 companies had an
agreement, or if Bergner & Engle simply reused an A-B bottle. It's a
9" clear BIM crown top marked: front: TRADE MARK / (eagle inside letter A) / ANHEUSER-BUSCH BREW ASN / WASHINGTON, D.C. back: REGISTERED bottom: J. BROS. label: TANNHAEUSER / NONE WITHOUT THIS GENUINE SIGNITURE / PHILADELPHIA 1876 / BRUSSELS 1888 / PARIS GRAND PRIZE 1878 and 1889 FOUR MEDALS CHICAGO / THE BERGNER & ENGLE BREWING CO |
